Faith Christian Employee Arrested After Student Finds Gun in Bathroom

A staff member at Faith Christian Academy was arrested on Jan. 22 after an elementary-aged student found a gun in a bathroom and immediately notified their teacher.

The teacher relayed to the school resource officer that the weapon was found, and the SRO went to where the gun was found, located it, and secured it.

After a brief investigation by the SRO and school administration, it was determined that Carla D. McComb, 46, Kinston, who was a concealed handgun carry permittee and an employee of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, was the staff member who had left the firearm in the restroom moments before the student located it.

As a result of the investigation, McComb was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on educational property, with a $1,000 secured bond. McComb, a recent hire at Faith Christian, has been indefinitely suspended.

Faith Christian notified families of the incident after it happened.
