A trio of politicians were on hand on Tuesday afternoon to present Wayne Community College with $17 million to be used for facilities.

State Representatives John Bell and Jimmy Dixon and Senator Buck Newton presented Wayne Community College President Dr. Patty Pfeiffer with a check for $17 million to be used toward the school’s facilities.

The funds will be used towards facilities that directly impact Wayne Community College’s nursing, truck driving and public safety programs, along with various other programs on campus.

“I do appreciate the three of them (Bell, Dixon, and Newton) because they listen,” Pfeiffer said. “When I go to Raleigh, and I sit down in their offices, they truly listen to the needs. This $17 million dollars is not going to impact one program, it’s going to impact multiple programs on this campus. I can’t thank you, guys, enough for being champions for not only Wayne Community College, but the community college system as a whole, and more importantly, our students.”

Bell commented on the donation to Wayne Community College saying, “From a legislative perspective, I get to deal with this wonderful lady (Pfeiffer) here, who is by the way, not scared to ask. You need that because you can sit there and be awfully quiet and smile and grin and watch money go to other places. If we don’t know the needs it’s hard to put money towards the needs. You’ve got a president here that’s not afraid to ask, and who is also willing to partner with us on projects and let us know the needs of the community college.”
