Deceased Body Found Near Target Identified

On Jan. 7 at approximately 10:20 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a deceased person in the 1200 block of Sunburst Drive. Officers arrived, along with Wayne County EMS, and located a person in a body of water. EMS personnel pronounced the person deceased.

The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. At the time, the identity of the deceased and their cause of death was unknown.

The unidentified decedent was sent for an autopsy. According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, there were no signs of foul play. As of Jan. 22, the decedent had still yet to be identified. He was described by the Medical Examiner as being a black male, between the ages of 30 and 50, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 190 lbs. There were no tattoos or significant scars observed.

On Monday, the City of Goldsboro announced The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has positively identified the decedent as Phillip Dudley Baldwin, 60, of Goldsboro. Although there were no signs of foul play, the cause of death has yet to be determined.
