With sincere compassion and understanding, the Management and Staff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors join with the Lane and connected families to announce the earthly transition of Mr. Anthony Lane, 65; Mr. Lane transitioned on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Wayne UNC Health Care, Goldsboro, NC.

Mr. Anthony Vernado Lane, son of the late Sylvester Lane, Jr. and Ella Hamilton Lane, was born on June 3, 1958, in Wayne County, NC. He answered the Master’s Call on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Wayne UNC Health Care Center, Goldsboro, NC.

Reared in Goldsboro, NC, Anthony, affectionately known as Tommy, attended Wayne County Public Schools. Upon completion of High School, Tommy attended Fayetteville State University, majoring in Music Education. His love for music has afforded him the opportunity to play behind some very well-known artists in his career, including Roberta Flack and Johnny Taylor, to name a few. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and would often get into debates with his neighbor. He believed that watching the game at his mother’s house brought him bad luck. The eldest of two children, Tommy has always had a nurturing spirit and loves dogs, cooking, and eating. For many years, Tommy worked as a Furniture mover and as a musician with many different NC Symphony Orchestras up and down the East Coast.

A man of faith, Tommy enjoyed reading the bible and attending church with his mother. His favorite scripture is “ 2 Chronicles 7:14: If My people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Tommy touched many lives.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Lane, Jr.; his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as two aunts and one uncle.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Ella Lane; his sister, Antonya V. Lane; one daughter, Jasmine Lane; and three grandchildren; two aunts, Janice Sharpley and Marion Lane; three uncles: Charles Lane, Ronnie Hamilton, and Clarence Hamilton, and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother :
