January 20, 2024, 81, Goldsboro —
Rachel Pope Wells, 81, departed this life for life eternal with her Lord on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Rachel was born in Wayne County to the late Leon Glenn Pope and Mary Lee Holland Pope Allen on November 7, 1942. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ralph Vernon Wells.
Rachel had worked early in life at Pikeville Insurance Agency but later found her place as a teacher’s assistant at Pikeville Elementary School where her children started. Rachel always enjoyed the opportunities given to her by helping to impact the lives of so many children. She later transferred to Northwest Elementary School where she served as a teacher’s assistant and later in the administrative office at the school.
Devout in her faith, Rachel faithfully worshiped her Lord at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church. There, she enjoyed serving in many capacities through the years. Rachel had many lasting friendships and deep connections with her church family.
Rachel devoted her life to the care of her family. She tried her best to maintain connections with all of them, taking an interest in their lives and showing her constant support. Rachel treasured her role as grandmother and was always her “Boys” biggest fan in whatever they were involved in. A great cook, she looked forward to every opportunity to gather her family around the kitchen table to share in food and conversation.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Rachel’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with her husband, Ralph.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Penny Wells Bradley and Cindy Wells Neal and husband, Doug; grandsons, Nicholas Neal and fiancée, Ella Burton and Tanner Bradley and wife, Hannah; sisters, Darnell P. Johnson and Peggy Flowers and husband, Tommy; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.
