Cause of Death Still Being Determined in Body Found Near Target

On Jan. 7 at approximately 10:20 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a deceased person in the 1200 block of Sunburst Drive near Target.

Officers from the Golds arrived, along with Wayne County EMS, and located a person in a body of water. EMS personnel pronounced the person deceased. The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Currently, the identity of the deceased and their cause of death is unknown. Updates will be given when further information is available.

On Monday, the City of Goldsboro released a statement saying the unidentified decedent was sent for an autopsy. According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, there were no signs of foul play.

The decedent has still yet to be identified. He was described by the Medical Examiner as being a black male, between the ages of 30 and 50, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 190 lbs. There were no tattoos or significant scars observed. 

The Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is still working to identify the decedent.
