Sallie Bass Purvis, 88, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Wilson Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilson. Born in Johnston County on August 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester Bass and Lillian Dixon Bass.
Sallie enjoyed many years as a customer service representative in the banking industry. She shared many fond memories of her co-workers and time they spent together. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and Piney Grove Church Community. She always shared a smile, offered a meal, or just a laugh around the table. She was very proud of her grandchildren and especially loved bragging about her great-grands. She will be missed by all but we know Jesus welcomed home an angel on Christmas Day. As mother would say, “Every Day Is Christmas”.
Sallie is survived by her daughters, Sandra Phillips(Doug), Sallie Jo Boyette(Randy), and Susan Peele(Louis); three grandchildren, Sterling Phillips(April), Ryan Phillips(Shannon), Ethan Boyette; two great-grandchildren, Dallas Phillips, Shaylyn Phillips; sister, Faye Bass Hall; brother-in-law, Harold Hinnant; sister-in-law, Patsy Purvis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Vernon Purvis, Jr., and her sister, Janyce Bass Hinnant.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A service to celebrate Sallie’s life will be held in the chapel at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Reverend Gavin Daniels officiating. Interment will conclude at the Dixon Family Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wilson Pines Nursing Home for the care and love they expressed to our mother while she was a resident.
