December 25, 2023, 78, Goldsboro —
Joyce Ann Jones Lane, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Goldsboro Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Born in New Mexico, Joyce was the daughter of the late Marvin and Kathleen Kennedy Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Johnny, Jimmy, and Jerry Jones.
Joyce had previously worked for Woodard’s Retirement Home before retiring due to health issues. She also worked with Eckerd Drugs in the pharmacy department and for many years she was a waitress in downtown Goldsboro at Central Lunch.
She had a hidden talent as an artist, drawing and sketching. While attending Goldsboro High School, she was a proud member of the marching band where she played the trumpet in many parades and games. Joyce will be remembered as having a feisty personality, being bossy, and telling it like it was. She could also be comical and funny at times.
At her request, no formal services will be held.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lou Stevens, and husband, Kenny; grandsons, Tyler Stevens and Tanner Stevens; sister, Judy Tew and husband, Charlie; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Leslie Weil, Jessica, Jerry (Bea), and the staff of Waynesborough House, where Joyce resided for the past fifteen years, for their kind deeds over the years as Joyce called this home. A very special thank you goes to the residents on the 7th floor for checking on her care, especially her neighbor, Jeri.
Sincere thanks are extended to Anne, Sherad, Miranda, and the staff at Goldsboro Assisted Living and Memory Care for the care and attention given to Joyce for the past three months. Thanks are also extended to Allison and the staff of Gentiva Hospice Care for the comfort given to Joyce and for the love and support it gave the family. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to
