Bobby ‘Bob’ Gerald Suggs Sr.

Bobby ‘Bob’ Gerald Suggs Sr.

December 28, 2023, 84, Goldsboro —

Bobby ‘Bob’ Gerald Suggs Sr., 84, victoriously met his Savior face-to-face on Thursday afternoon, December 28, 2023. He was born in Wayne County, one of eleven children, to the late Edward Hamilton Suggs and Frances Lucille Forehand Suggs on March 10, 1939.

Bob was dedicated to the United States Army from his early years. He knew he wanted to serve his country. He found his place in the Army, serving for 25 years and earning the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Spending time with his family and fishing was the ultimate joy for Bob. He took pride in taking care of his wife Doris ‘Dot’, the love of his life for 58 years. Bob served the Lord and his church for many years at Free Chapel P.F.W.B. Church where he served as a deacon and led the choir. If the doors were open, Bob was walking through them. His church family was dear to his heart and he was a faithful supporter and friend. Though Bob’s family grieves their loss, they find solace in knowing he is with the Savior of his soul.

Bob spent his mornings enjoying breakfast and fellowship with friends at Ashley’s Diner. In the afternoons you could find him at RB’s store, visiting friends, or in his chair ‘resting his eyes’.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Doris ‘Dot’ Ham Suggs.; Sons; Gerald Suggs and wife, Nicole of Kinston; David Suggs and Michelle Matthews of Pikeville. Grandchildren; Kallie Suggs Taylor and husband, Davis, John Suggs, Jacob Suggs, and Chase Matthews; and a great-granddaughter Olivia ‘Livi’ Taylor. He is also survived by his sister Montier Savage and husband, Roy; sisters-in-law, Maxine Suggs, and Jettye Suggs; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of special friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 1, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Pastor Ronnie Weaver and Pastor Dane Williford will be officiating the service.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Suggs, Mattie Maready, Gladys Maready, Ed Suggs, Doris Sauls, Jim Suggs, Leon Suggs, Bill Suggs, and Eugene Suggs.

The family would like to extend special appreciation to those who cared for Bob at Goldsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, UNC Health Wayne, and Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
