December 18, 2023, 69, Goldsboro —
Gary Wesley Eason, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 18, at his place of residence in Grantham. He was surrounded by loved ones.
Born Sept. 8, 1954, Gary was a kind, humble man, one whose strong wanderlust for the open road led to a naval career in 1976. He proudly served for 14 years, which included honorable service during the Gulf War. His time abroad was difficult but nonetheless supported by his family and friends back home.
Upon returning to the United States, Gary later entered a new line of work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, a career that would last over two decades until his retirement in 2020.
In September 1999, he wed his beloved bride, Christina (Burleson). Their loving union intertwined six kids, and later, many grandchildren. Gary was a doting and protective spouse, father, grandfather, son, and brother.
He spent many years also closely assisting his aging parents, whom he was very fond of. Alongside his wife, Gary cared for his mother, Cora, until the time of her death, which occurred shortly after his retirement.
A strong man of faith, Gary always aimed to serve and help anyone in need, and did so selflessly and without hesitation. His extended community of faith at Generation Church was blessed by his musical gifts, with Gary often showcasing his lifelong passion for guitar and piano during services.
Gary is survived by his wife of 24 years, Christina Eason; his daughter, Sarah Magner; a son, Patrick Eason; his stepchildren, Guinevere (Joe) Williams, Alicia Saunders, Jeremy (Stephanie) Saunders, and Scott (Michelle) Saunders. He was also survived by numerous grandchildren who joyfully filled his home on many memorable occasions and holidays.
Gary was preceded by his parents, J.L. and Cora Eason; and his brother, John “Jack” Eason.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Generation Church, located at 3016 Summit Road in Goldsboro. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Generation Church. Interment will occur at Fairview Cemetery immediately following the service.
As well, the Eason and Saunders families would like to offer a sincere debt of gratitude and appreciation for any and all who reached out during their time of need.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
