John Melville, Jr., 78, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023, at UNC Health Johnston in Smithfield. Born in Painesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Melville, Sr., and Florence Rose Melville.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Hintelmann Melville; daughter, Meredith Melville (Brad); grandchildren, Haley Aldrich (Maurice) and Mackenzie Melville; and great-granddaughter, Zoey.

John served his country in the United States Air Force. After his service time, he owned and operated a horse farm along with his daughter. Together, they formed an unbreakable bond. John was notorious for his green thumb. Nothing pleased him more than being outdoors. John would not go anywhere without his service dog, Mya. The two formed an inseparable bond like no other.

Per John’s request, no formal service will be held.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brianna Jean.
