Firefighters Respond to Tuesday Afternoon Two-Vehicle Accident

DUDLEY — On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters from Indian Springs and EMS station 1 were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Indian Springs Road and Arrington Bridge Road.

As fire and EMS personnel arrived on the scene they found a pickup truck owned by Wayne County, had collided with a log truck. The driver of the pickup managed to get out, while the driver of the 18-wheeler had to be removed by firefighters from Indian Springs and Mount Olive.

Firefighters had to stabilize the cab of the log truck before using their extraction tool to free thedriver. Both drivers were taken to UNC Health Wayne to be checked out for their injuries. The accident is being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation was called in to close off the road between Eagles Nest Road and Arrington Bridge Road while the accident site was cleaned up.

Charges are pending following the outcome of the investigation.
