Gaylor, New Council Members Sworn in on Monday Evening

The leadership of the City of Goldsboro welcomed multiple new faces on Monday evening as new mayor Charles Gaylor IV was sworn into office, along with four new members of the Goldsboro City Council at the council’s regularly scheduled meeting.

Gaylor replaces David Ham, who had served as mayor since August of 2021. Ham was appointed mayor after former mayor Chuck Allen resigned in June of 2021 for health reasons. Prior to becoming mayor Ham began his tenure as the District 5 representative on the Goldsboro City Council in 2015.

Gaylor, the former District 5 representative, defeated Raymond Smith Jr. in the November mayoral race by six votes.

Also sworn in on Monday night were new council members Chris Boyette (District 2), Jamie Taylor (District 3), Beverly Weeks (District 5) and Roderick White (District 6).

The council agreed to appoint District 4 representative Brandi Matthews as Mayor Pro Tem. Matthews was appointed Mayor Pro Tem by the previous council in June after former District 3 representative Taj Polack resigned for personal reasons.

Also on Monday evening, outgoing council members Bill Broadway (District 2), Greg Batts (District 6), and Ham were honored for their service to the city.
