UNC Health Wayne Undergoes Enhancements in Emergency and Pediatric Services

In UNC Health Wayne’s ongoing commitment to continually improve the quality of care provided to the community, it is set to undergo significant enhancements in its Emergency Department and Pediatric services.

Beginning December 21st, UNC Health Wayne will partner with WEPPA (Wake Emergency Physicians, PA), a trusted provider to manage its Emergency Department. WEPPA brings more than 26 physicians and 9 PAs and NPs who will join the UNC Health Wayne Team.

Additionally, UNC Health Wayne will be opening its new Vertical Emergency Treatment Area, which will help reduce wait times in the Emergency Department and allow it to better meet the needs of its patients

Beginning Jan. 1st, UNC Health Wayne will no longer admit pediatric patients into the hospital. It is important to note that while UNC Health Wayne will no longer accept pediatric admissions, it will offer pediatric emergency care overseen by board-certified emergency medicine physicians in the Emergency Department.

The two to three pediatric patients per week that have historically required admission, will be seamlessly transferred to a nearby hospital. UNC Health Wayne remains committed to providing exceptional, quality care, and the UNC Health Physicians Network Pediatricians will now provide post-delivery care.

This decision does not diminish the importance of pediatrics; rather it aligns with UNC Health Wayne’s focus on preventative care. Goldsboro Pediatrics, our trusted primary care provider for pediatrics, has consistently excelled in keeping its patients healthy and out of the hospital.

UNC Health Wayne values the trust of the community and is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for its Emergency and Pediatric services.  We look forward to the opportunities these changes will bring, and we are committed to continuously improving to ensure the health and well-being of the community.

Founded in 1992, Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA) is an independent Emergency Medicine practice comprised of over 200 Emergency Medicine specialists. WEPPA staffs all WakeMed Emergency Departments, both UNC Health Nash and UNC Health Johnston Emergency Departments, and the Granville Health System Emergency Department.

In addition to patient care, Wake Emergency Physicians, PA is involved with training new healthcare providers- medical students, physicians, and APPs- throughout their education, residency, and fellowship.
