Paul Hubert Pittman, Jr., 91, passed peacefully into eternal life on November 20, 2023, after a short illness. He is predeceased by his parents, Paul Hubert Pittman and Estelle Dail Pittman, and his son, Rev. Paul Hubert Pittman, III.

Paul was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, and grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He was a 1950 graduate of Goldsboro High School. He loved scouting and was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 6, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. During his youth and high school years, he worked as a paper carrier for the Goldsboro News-Argus and at the Goldsboro Post Office during the Christmas rush.

Paul graduated from N.C. State University in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering. While at N.C. State, he was a distinguished military student in the U.S. Army ROTC program. After graduation, he completed 3rd Engineer Officer Basic Training, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and served in Korea from 1955-1957 as the Commander of Company B of the 11th Engineer Combat Battalion.

During his working life, Paul was chief estimator with R.N. Rouse Construction Company in Goldsboro. He was also co-owner of Cox-Pittman Construction Company, manager of the building division at S.T. Wooten Corp., and project manager for D.S. Simmons, Inc.

Paul dedicated time and expertise over the years to the HGDC Community Crisis Center in Goldsboro. In retirement, he was an active member of the Goldsboro Golden K Kiwanis Club and volunteered for 10 years as an elementary school math tutor as part of the Golden K’s charitable education program.

A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro, Paul was a Sunday School teacher and served as a Deacon and an Elder, in addition to holding other leadership roles over the decades. He was a true and honorable steward of the talent God gave him and a faithful Christian all his days.

Paul is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Glenn Randall Pittman. He is also survived by his daughter Dr. Mary Katherine Compton and husband the Rev. Dr. David O. Compton, Jr., daughter Rebekah Pittman Leonard, and husband William Andrew Leonard, and daughter-in-law Laura Newsome Pittman. He is survived by grandchildren Sarah Elspeth Compton and husband Colin Sinclair Collis, Charles Kiser Leonard, Benjamin Davis Leonard, Samuel Luis Pittman, and Annie Dupre Pittman, and one great-grandchild, Matilda Katherine Collis.

A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on November 30th at 11:00 am.
