Reba Doris Jones Andrews

Reba Doris Jones Andrews

November 16, 2023, 93, Goldsboro —

Reba Doris Jones Andrews, 93, left the ones she loved to join the love of her life and be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Doris was born in Wake County to the late Ruby Jones on May 26, 1930. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Carl H. Andrews, Sr.; her brother, Carl Jones; her sister, Abby Timberlake and brother-in-law, Billy Timberlake.

Having been raised on the farm in Wake County, Doris learned firsthand the value of hard work and how to cook by the age of eight. Her work ethic continued to manifest throughout her adult life. From raising her children and running her household to over 40 years of dedicated service as a valued employee in the men’s department at Belk, Doris was known in the store for going above and beyond to assist her customers. Her patrons became more than customers; they became her friends and family, many calling her “Mama Doris”.

A graduate of Rolesville High School, Doris soon after married her sweetheart, Carl H. Andrews, Sr. After moving to Goldsboro, the two started their family and built a life together. She loved her roots in farming and enjoyed the opportunity to have a garden at her home where she grew many varieties of vegetables. Her harvest was frequently used in her kitchen when preparing meals or storing away for another time. She was the very definition of a southern cook and anyone who sat at her table always delighted in the bounty.

Retirement did not render Doris’ time for idle hands. She opened Doris’ Antiques in Pikeville and found pleasure in sharing the wonderful treasure of her store with others. She enjoyed more time with her grands, great-grands and great-greats. All the while gardening, canning, freezing, and cooking for others. She never met a stranger and befriended everyone she met along her way with Mr. Carl always by her side.

Family and faith were of utmost importance to Doris. She cherished the visits from her children and families, especially when everyone was gathered around the table. Doris had a deep faith in God and loved serving the Lord. Worshiping with believers and friends, Doris called First Baptist Church her home after moving to Goldsboro and later enjoyed visiting and being a member of other churches and sharing her testimony of Christ’s love.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Doris’ life at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Franklin Lane officiating. A private interment for the family will be on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Rolesville, NC.
