Wayne County Board of Elections Finalizes Results From Municipal Election

After counting all provisional ballots, mail-in ballots, write-in ballots, and international absentee ballots, the Wayne County Board of Elections released the final results from the Nov. 7 municipal election on Friday morning.

After initially winning the Goldsboro Mayor race by nine votes over Raymond Smith Jr., Charles Gaylor officially won by six votes. Gaylor received 49.94 percent of the votes while Smith earned 49.80 percent of the votes.

Beverly Weeks collected 50.47 percent of the vote to edge Phyllis Merrill-James in the race for the District 5 season on the Goldsboro City Council. Merrill-James received 48.86 percent of the votes. Weeks won by 12 votes.

Jerome Newton was victorious in the Mount Olive Mayoral race by earning 50,4 percent of the votes tp defeat incumbent mayor Steve Wiggins, Wiggins received 48.74 percent of the votes. Newton won by 15 votes.
