November 10, 2023, 86, Mount Olive —

Mrs. Nell Swinson Burch, 86, resident of the Rhodes Church community near Mount Olive, passed away at her home late Friday afternoon, November 10, 2023. 

Her death brought about sadness amongst her family left behind but gave joy in knowing she was reunited with her beloved husband, Woodard Carlyle Burch, on his 89th birthday.  He had recently passed away on September 13, 2023. 

Mrs. Burch was a homemaker and a good steward in her community.  She gave of her time and talents with Wayne Memorial Hospital as a volunteer,  and also with the Wayne County Public Schools, where she volunteered and also served as a substitute teacher.  In addition, she served as a substitute letter carrier with the Dudley post office.  Mrs. Burch was a member of Dudley Christian Church.

Her life will be remembered at Dudley Christian on Monday, November 13, at 2 p.m.  Officiating will be Pastor Blaine Smith.   Visitation with the family will be at the church during the hour before the service.

Mrs. Burch is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey Burch Pridgen and Wayne Pridgen of Mount Olive, and Gina Burch Dunn and John Dunn of Newport two grandsons, Allen Anttila and Wesley Anttila, both of Newport; a great-grandson, Brayden Rayburn; and several nieces and nephews.

Raised as one of nine children by Emmett and Lucy Swinson, she was preceded by her eight siblings; her parents; her husband; and a grandson, Gentry Wayne Pridgen.
