2024 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award Nomination is Now Open

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Governor’s Service Award and Medallion Award for Volunteer Service.

The awards program, created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, recognizes North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, the award has been bestowed on thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local community.

Each county selects up to ten individuals, businesses, groups/teams and one paid Director of Volunteers to be recognized for their outstanding contribution to their communities. One of the nominees will be nominated for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, which is awarded to approximately the top 20 volunteers in the state. A local committee evaluates the nominations.

To be eligible, volunteers must have been engaged in volunteer activities in North Carolina, primarily in Wayne County and the volunteer work was not for compensation, school credit, or mandated by court or other authorities; volunteers may not be nominated by themselves, family members or members of their volunteer group being submitted for nominations. Previous recipients from the past 10 years are ineligible.

Nominations for Wayne County must be submitted using the provided form and emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at the United Way of Wayne County office located at 2803 Cashwell Drive Suite B, Goldsboro.  The form must be typed, with all required parts completed as well as signed and dated by the nominator. The deadline to submit nominations for Wayne County is January 27, at 5 p.m.
