Jeanette Johnson Cockrell, 83, of Kenly passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. She was at home with her husband of 62 years, Elton Cockrell, and her son, Mark. Jeanette was born on July 12, 1940, to the late Sanford and Bessie Johnson of Kenly.

After graduating from Rock Ridge High School, she married the love of her life, Elton Lee Cockrell. She spent the majority of her professional life at Aycock Auto Auction serving in the role of office manager.

Jeanette loved working in the yard, creating beautiful floral arrangements, and was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church since her youth. However, her greatest joy was her family, her husband, her son, her grandkids. Hunter and Hailee, her brothers, her sisters, and her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband, Elton Lee; her son, Mark and wife, Ronnia; her grandson, Hunter; her granddaughter, Hailee; her sisters, Janet Cockrell and husband, Jerry of Grifton, and Peggy Pendergraph and husband, James of Raleigh. She was also loved deeply by numerous nieces and nephews who called her “Aunt Ette”

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry Raeford “Chief” Johnson, Nathan Waeford Johnson, and Billy Athen Johnson.

A service to celebrate Jeanette’s life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. Interment services will follow at Kenly Cemetery. The family will also receive friends at the home.
