Brent Franklin Gurley

Brent Franklin Gurley

October 7, 2023, 56, Goldsboro —

Brent Franklin Gurley, 56, was called to his eternal home on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023, while surrounded by his wife and dear friend. Brent was born in Wayne County on November 14, 1966. The gracious welcome home he received was without a doubt started by his Lord and followed quickly with an embrace from his parents, Franklin and Patsy Gurley, brother, Pat Gurley, and daughter, Brittany Gurley. Brent was also preceded in death by his grandson, Braxton Roy Pearce, and sister-in-law, Holly Carol Jackson Moore.

Brent was a 1984 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School. He worked hard throughout his life and medically retired from Southco in 2021 after several years of dedicated service as a warehouse supervisor.

Brent was kind, generous, and witty beyond compare. His infectious smile and huge laugh were enough of a greeting to become an instant friend with him. Known to cut up and have a good time, he constantly kept something going. He was going to enjoy life and give 110% in good times and in bad.

While Brent’s genuine love for his friends was enormous, it paled in comparison to his love for his family. One can’t think of Brent without his wife, Tammy, coming to mind. He was the best husband to Tammy, happily married, partners in life, and the best of friends. The addition of their daughter, Brittany, completed their trio, and, for Brent, Tammy, and Brittany were his whole world and biggest blessings. His most prized roles in life were husband to Tammy and dad to Brittany.

A “jack of all trades”, Brent especially enjoyed being outside. When he wasn’t working, Brent loved nothing more than to feel the tug of a fish on the line or sharing shots with his friends on the golf course. Brent would probably tell you that nothing was more satisfying than to be just at home in his barn tinkering on something.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Brent’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Daniel L. Lewis officiating.

Brent is survived by his wife of 36 years, Tammy Jackson Gurley; sister, Angie Gurley; sister-in-law, Laura Gurley; niece, Kelli Hamm, and husband, Michael; nephews, Chad Gurley and wife, Jessica and Hunter Britt; brother-in-law, Jeff Moore; nephews, Kent Moore and Cole Moore; niece, Carley Moore, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins he loved very much.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Gentiva Hospice. Love and heartfelt thanks are also expressed to his dear friends, Jay Turner, Danny Wiggins, and Brad Dawson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Seymour Funeral Home in Brent’s memory.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
