Billy Autry Green

Billy Autry Green

October 3, 2023, 83, Goldsboro —

“Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.”

Matthew 25:21 ESV

Billy Autry Green was delivered from the cares of this life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, while at home and surrounded by his family. He was born in Nash County to the late William McKinley Green and Donna Mae Manning Green on December 12, 1939. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his sister, Seretha G. Ferrell; brother, Herbert Hoover “June Bug” Green; and brother-in-law, Billy L. Talton.

Billy was indeed known for his innate talent of being able to “fix,” repair, and many times “bring back to life” anything with appliances and HVAC systems. He began working for Sears Roebuck & Co. in the service department and quickly rose to parts service manager, serving the Goldsboro area for 17 years. He obtained his HVAC license and worked for Eastern Air before moving into the maintenance department at Cherry Hospital, where he retired. He also proudly served in the North Carolina Army National Guard. In his retirement years, he loved staying active, running and exercising, keeping his yard in a meticulous state, and he just loved the outdoors. Come football and basketball season; he was a diehard UNC Carolina Tarheel fan.

A fine man of deep faith and a servant’s heart, Billy loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, strength, and mind. He faithfully worshiped at the Pineview Baptist Church his entire adult life, where he served as a former Chairman of the Deacon Board, visitation and outreach ministry, nursing home ministry, assistant youth leader, softball coaching assistant, grounds, and maintenance, and so many other countless roles.

A service to celebrate Billy’s life will be held by the graveside at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, in Pikeville Cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at his home.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lillian Carol Talton Green; daughter, Penny G. Withrow and husband, Chris; sons, Autry H. Green and wife, Frances and Tracy L. Green; three grandchildren, Tristin L. Green, Austin M. Green, and Graham P. Withrow; brother, William Edward Green and wife, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Ethel Green, Margaret Ann Talton and Kimberly T. Craig and husband, Ryan; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Ferrell; and several nieces and nephews he loved so very much.

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
