Alice Starling Jernigan

Alice Starling Jernigan

October 2, 2023, 83, Goldsboro —

Alice Starling Jernigan, 83, made her way to Heaven on Monday, October 2, 2023. She was born in Wayne County on January 7, 1940, to the late Lattie Barker Starling, Sr. and Lydia Hall Starling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Allison Jernigan, and her brothers, Lattie B. Starling, Jr. and James Thomas Starling.

Alice graduated from Goldsboro High School and Wilson School of Nursing. “Once a nurse, always a nurse.” A phrase every nurse knows, but no truer words could describe Alice who spent her whole adult career as a registered nurse, touching the lives of countless people. Alice loved spending time gardening and growing her own flowers, including her red tulips. She was a great cook and known for her chocolate pie and grape hull pie.

An extension of Alice’s home and family was her church family at Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church serving in various roles over the years. Every time there was something going on at the church, you could rest assured that Alice and Jack would be there. They were faithful members. Annual events and homecoming were made all the better by Alice’s organization.

For many years, Alice was a member of the Downtown Lady Lions Club supporting her husband who was a long-time member of the Downtown Lions Club.

Alice is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jack Jernigan; son, Jeffrey Lee Jernigan and wife, Melinda; grandchildren, Joshua Lee Jernigan and wife, Mary Kathryn and Graham Scott Jernigan; and sister, Lydia (Ruth) S. Andrews.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1000 E Ash St, Goldsboro, NC 27530, with Rev. Ronnie Heath officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The interment will be on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
