September 28, 2023, 84, Goldsboro —
Anne Ellis Horne peacefully departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Thursday, September 28, 2023. She was born in Wake County to the late Ronald and Kathleen King Ellis on November 24, 1938. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Jackson; and sister, Marilu White.
Anne was married to her soulmate, Darrell, for 43 years. Together they built a thriving family business, Horne Moving Systems, and raised a blended family of six daughters: Pam, Kathy, Karen, Leigh, Marla, and DeeDee. Anne and Darrell enjoyed many grand adventures throughout their marriage. They traveled the US in their RV, explored other countries, cheered on their beloved Wolfpack, and spent time with a plethora of friends. They enjoyed serving the Lord at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church for many years and continued their commitment to ministry and service in recent years at Spring Hill Original FWB where Darrell serves as Deacon. Anne was a vibrant part of women’s ministries, including providing meals at Kitty Askins. She treasured the time she spent learning about the Lord and praising Him with her church family. During recent years, as Anne’s health declined, Darrell tended to Anne faithfully. He made sure that she was still present at church, social events, and restaurants all over town. He was her rock, and she loved him with her whole heart.
Anne loved her six girls, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren unconditionally. She was known to travel to Raleigh, Kansas, California, Texas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Virginia, and across town to spend time with each of them. The memories they share of their Mama, Miss Anne, and Gran are full of funny stories of her wit, generosity, candor, and silliness. Anne was fun. She’d play on the floor with her grandkids, shop with her daughters, and love to make spaces beautiful. Her sense of style, genuine smile, and ability to never meet a stranger made every room she entered brighter and those around her grateful for her friendship. She will be missed terribly, but all who love her find solace in knowing that her body is healed and that she is in the presence of her Savior.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The First Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro. A service to celebrate Anne’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of The First Church with Rev. Al Warrick and Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Anne is survived by her husband, C. Darrell Horne; daughters, Pam Stanley, and Kathy Cox, and husband, Fenton, Karen Murphy, and husband, Doug, Leigh Weikert, and husband, Dave, Marla Ashworth and DeeDee Schmitz and husband, Paul; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ronnie Ellis, and partner-in-crime, Georgia Cuddington.
