Drainage to be Upgraded on Big Daddy’s Road

PIKEVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is upgrading the drainage on Big Daddy’s Road east of Pikeville.

A maintenance contractor is replacing cross-line pipes at eight locations along a six-mile stretch of Big Daddy’s Road, requiring short-term closures to thru-traffic between U.S. 117 and N.C. 111. The work started on Sept. 28 and is expected to be completed by Oct. 6, weather permitting.

The pipes are nearing the end of their lifespan, and the NCDOT wants to replace them before this same stretch of road is resurfaced in a future project.

Drivers should follow the signs for the detours, which will vary based on which pipe is being replaced. Drivers will require a longer trip using the alternate routes and approach each work site cautiously.
