Thomas Anderson Barefoot, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home. Born in Wake County on November 11, 1966, he was the son of Janet Naylor Barefoot Harrell and the late Thomas Odell Barefoot.

In addition to his father, Tom was preceded in death by his step-father, Ellis Earl Harrell; and step-son, McKinley McCurry.

In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by his son, Andrew Thomas Barefoot; special friend and companion, Olga McLeod; sister, Joni Alford and husband, Forest; nieces and nephew, Jennifer Alford, Megan Collins and husband, Chris, and Josh Alford and wife, Jennifer; former wife and the mother of his son, Minda Barefoot; former wife, Tracie Barefoot; step-daughter, Kayla McCurry; ten great-nieces and great-nephews; and several special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tom attended Wake Christian School and graduated from Garner Senior High School. He furthered his education at North Carolina State University earning a bachelor’s degree.

Tom worked for many years in the banking industry, first with Wachovia and later BB&T, now Truist where he had been a faithful employee for the past 25 years.

From his school days and into adulthood, Tom was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed playing football, baseball, basketball, and a good round of golf. Tom got just as much enjoyment from playing various sports as he did pulling for his favorite teams, N.C. State and the Pittsburg Steelers.

Above all else, the most important in Tom’s life was his family. The bond he shared with his son, Andrew was evident in every aspect of Tom’s life. Tom and Andrew shared a love for sports amongst other things and enjoyed those moments spent together. Tom could often be found on the sidelines cheering Andrew on. They traveled many miles to various ballparks, arenas, and stadiums to support their favorite ball teams.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. A service to celebrate Tom’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

Flowers are welcome and may be delivered to Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
