Bobby Cox, 82, of Dudley, passed away Wednesday night at Wayne U.N.C Hospital. He was the son of the late Walter and Phoebe Grantham Cox, and the husband of Patricia Wise Cox. Bobby was a retired Staff Sergeant from the South Carolina National Guard after 27 years of service. An avid bird watcher, his favorites were cardinals and doves. He also enjoyed squirrel hunting, people watching, working in his garden, especially his strawberries, and watching Molly B. Polka on TV. He had two loyal furry friends Coco and JJ. After serving in the SCNG, Bobby went on to become a truck driver and then a Jailer for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23 in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. The family will receive friends following the service, and at other times at the home of Tammy Hare 212 Buck Run Drive Goldsboro.
In addition to his wife, Pat, Bobby is survived by his children, Missy Wallace, Sandy Cox, Lucy Marr (Don), Tammy Hare (Jean), Stevie Herring (Shannon), Angie Dunn (Dale), and Fred Herring (April); grandchildren, Shannon Brown, Nikki Kimble (Anthony), Paul Hare (Brittany), Sarah Hare, Mary Dunn, Daniel Dunn, Ally Davis (Brandon), Emily Mobley (Malcolm), and Michael Herring; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by sons, Timothy Cox and Jason Cox and a grandson, DJ Kimble.
