Mary Powell Bailey

Mary Powell Bailey

September 15, 2023, 80, Goldsboro —

Mary Powell Bailey, 80, departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Friday, September 15, 2023. She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Thomas and Georgiana Powell on August 8, 1943.

Mary stood by her husband’s side in all he sought to do. The two of them made an unbeatable team as owners of the Swop Shop in Goldsboro. They raised their two daughters and loved watching them grow and build lives of their own.

Crashing waves and the breezy salt air brought great joy to Mary, as she enjoyed trips to the beach as often as possible. No matter the location, her day could be made with a good book in hand, especially if surrounded by her family. Taking an interest in the hobbies and activities of her grandchildren, Mary made sure to mark her calendar and attend every event in which they participated.

Mary faithfully served her Lord through the ministries of the church. She looked forward to every church service at First Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro where she worshipped her Lord.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. John Hill officiating. The interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
