WCSO Pursues Vehicle Stolen From City of Goldsboro

On Sept. 10, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle in the 400 block of Berkeley Blvd., that had been reported stolen from the city of Goldsboro.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, however, the vehicle failed to stop and deputies gave chase. The vehicle fled down Berkeley Blvd at high rates of speed and then onto US HWY 70 traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. The pursuing Deputy terminated the pursuit due to its dangerous nature and exited off onto Spence Ave while notifying incoming units of the possible location of travel for the fleeing vehicle.

A short while later the North Carolina Highway Patrol located the vehicle at The First Church Road and Wayne Memorial Drive crashed near this intersection. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and died at the scene.

At this time, that individual’s name is not being released pending next of kin notification. The investigation is being conducted by The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, NC Highway Patrol, and Goldsboro Police Department. The investigation is still ongoing.
