Wayne County Public Library to Host Voter Photo ID Event

Beginning with this fall’s municipal elections, North Carolina voters will be asked to present photo ID when voting.

For most voters, their driver’s license will satisfy the Voter Photo ID requirement, but there are many other acceptable forms of ID.

Below is a list of acceptable forms of ID, as long as the ID is unexpired, or expired for one year or less:

  • North Carolina driver’s license
  • State ID from the NCDMV (also called “non-operator ID”)
  • Driver’s license or non-driver ID from another state, District of Columbia, or U.S. territory (only if voter registered in North Carolina within 90 days of the election)
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport card
  • North Carolina voter photo ID card issued by a county board of elections (see Get a Free Voter Photo ID).
  • College or university student ID approved by the State Board of Elections (see box below)
  • State or local government or charter school employee ID approved by the State Board of Elections (see box below)

Any registered voter may obtain a free photo ID card from their county board of elections. The Wayne County Board of Elections is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 309 E. Chestnut St., in Goldsboro.

Any of the following, regardless of whether the ID contains an expiration or issuance date can also be used as a valid voter ID:

  • Military or veterans ID card (with photo) issued by the U.S. government
  • Tribal enrollment card (with photo) issued by a tribe recognized by the state or federal government
  • ID card (with photo) issued by an agency of the U.S. government or the State of North Carolina for a public assistance program (Note: Although this is an acceptable form of ID under North Carolina law, the State Board is not aware of any such ID in circulation that contains a photo. All IDs for voting are required to have a photo.)

In addition, the Wayne County Board of Elections is co-hosting a Voter Photo ID informational session with the Wayne County Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The board of elections will be making Voter Photo ID’s at the event, offering voter registration services, as well as providing information on the upcoming City of Goldsboro primary election, and the upcoming Municipal and Sanitary District election.
