Idalia Expected to be Downgraded to Tropical Storm Before Reaching North Carolina

Hurricane Idalia has begun to wreak havoc on Florida and Georgia and will continue to push towards South Carolina and North Carolina throughout the day on Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

Governor Roy Cooper has issued a State of Emergency for North Carolina.

Idalia is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reaches North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. The rain is expected to intensify Wednesday evening and into the early hours of Thursday morning. Wayne County could see between three to five inches of rain according to the National Weather Service. Winds are expected to be between 35mph and 45mph, and there is the possibility of power outages in the Eastern part of the state.

The storm should move out of the area by early Thursday afternoon.
