Carroll Edward Grady

Mr. Carroll Edward Grady, 79, a lifelong resident of the Rhodes Community near Grantham, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 23, 2023, in a farm-related accident. His life ended as he was doing what he so loved taking care of his farm and its needs.

Though he had been a truck driver,  his love of farming was always what he cared about. His farm grew crops as well as swine.  He had served in the U.S. Air Force and was quite handy with carpentry, furniture making, and even jewelry making.  He enjoyed studying rocks and gems and was a member of a gem club.  A  member of Rhodes Friends Meeting he was a mainstay in the community, and was known as being one of the good samaritans in the neighborhood, always willing to help and do for others.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Murphey Grady, of the home; three daughters, Laura Grady Read of Mount Olive, Patti Grady Lane of Dudley, and Sherry Grady Holmes of Mount Olive; three sisters, LaMuriel Grady Swinson of Dudley, Kay Grady Parrish and husband, Buddy, of Mount Olive, and Pamela Grady Beaman of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Justin Graham (Jessica), Wesley Graham, Marleigh Read, Gloria Trussell (John), Emily Lane (Eric), Jennifer Johnson (Joseph), Alyssa Lane, Jeffrey Lane, Joshua Holmes (Hope), and Tyler Edward Grady (Cynthia); great-grandchildren, James Graham, Madelyn Davis, Jennifer Graham, Karlee Trussell, Katlyn Parks, Olivia Trussell, Ethan Dupree, Colin Dupree, Lana Dupree, Payton Johnson, Violet Johnson, Bella Lane, Liam Lane, Wyatt Lane, and Kataleigh Holmes; several nieces and nephews’ special family members, Billy and LaRose Jackson, Allen and Wanda Jackson, and Jason and Vicki Jackson; and a sister in law, Beth Randolph.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Edward Grady; and his parents, Roscoe E. and Cleo Anderson Grady.

The Grady family will receive friends at Rhodes Friends Meeting on Wednesday, August 30, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Services will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Hill officiating. Burial will conclude the service at Wayne Memorial Park.
