Kenneth Stephen “Steve” Smith, 57, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County on June 17, 1966, he was the son of Ann Mewborn Smith and the late Elton Lee Smith.

In addition to his mother, Steve is survived by his daughters, Morgan Stafford (Blaine) and Stephanie Winstead (Shane); brothers, E.L. Smith, Jr. (Judy) and Michael Smith (Patricia); and grandchildren, Nora Stafford, Riley Stafford, and Smith Winstead.

Steve was a lifelong farmer in the Hood Swamp area. He graduated from Rosewood High School where he was an accomplished Basketball player making All-Conference.

The family would like to thank Crystal Sutton for the compassion and care she showed to Steve and the family.

A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Jonathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
