Edna Martin Watson, 100, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at UNC Health Wayne. Born in Wayne County on December 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertie Bell Martin.

In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Sam Leroy Watson, Sr.; granddaughter, Crystal Thomas; sisters, Opal Watson and Pearl Martin; and brother, Carl Leonard Martin.

Edna is survived by her son, Sam Watson, Jr. of Clayton; daughter, Betty W. Grechanik of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Amanda Adams and Bobby Arcenia; five great-grandchildren; and nephew, Carl Watson.

Edna was a founding member of Northview Christian Church which later became Northview Baptist Church. Her outgoing personality served her well as a volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years.

Edna enjoyed participating in the Senior Games, winning numerous medals in a 30-year span. She enjoyed painting with many of her beautiful paintings displayed in her home. Edna enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta with her friends. She was a longtime member of the Golden Agers.

A graveside service to celebrate Edna’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Seymour Funeral Home.
