Vicky Ann Jacobs Boyd Lane made her way to Heaven on Friday, August 11, 2023. She was born in Kinston, NC on February 3, 1943, to Daniel “Buck” Jacobs and Gladys Bright Quinn while the noon whistle was blowing at the cotton mill.
Her life was incredible, but not in the way most people would think. It wasn’t lavish or full of fancy things. It was incredible because she lived life on her own terms – the way she wanted, when she wanted to do it. She was full of knowledge, sass, and spunk. She made her home in several places – Kinston, La Grange, Kill Devil Hills, and the Hampton Roads area. She was a woman of many talents and careers. She owned a beauty salon, taught cosmetology school, was a traveling saleswoman, and was a caregiver. She dug deep into genealogy, used her hands to create, and authored and published 3 books. She spent her time writing, traveling to promote her books, or setting up at a craft show. She loved to go and piddle, she could stay in one store for hours on end. She loved crossword puzzles and board games, the Cracker Barrel, shopping, gambling, and keeping us all on our toes.
Most of all, she loved her family. She had a heart of gold, loved deeply, encouraged others, and believed in all of us. She was never afraid to ask for what she wanted, share her opinion, or tell you like it was. She was bright, beautiful, bossy, funny, courageous, and giving. Her time on this Earth was well spent, and we will forever be grateful for the life and love she has given all of us.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Gene Lane, her friend, pillar of strength and love for over 45 years; her grandson, Steven “Bubba” Lane (Kay) of Kill Devil Hills; granddaughter, Torey Moore (Kerry) of Portsmouth, VA; siblings, Delores Hatem (Bob) of La Grange, Daniel Jacobs (Wanda) of Kinston, and Judy Stowe of Hickory, NC; 5 great-grandchildren, Lexy, Karleigh, Keleigh, KJ, and Cypher; nieces, Krystal McDaniel (Brian), Brittany Jones, and Kayla Heath; nephew, Christian Jacobs; 3 step-children, Liz Stroot (Randy), Matthew Lane, and Gregory Lane; 5 step-grandchildren, Ethan, Erin, Jarrett, Jimmy, and Abigail; her favorite cousin, Pidgie Quinn; her first husband, Allen Boyd; and a daughter-in-love, Phitsumay Sundara.
In addition to her parents, Vicky was preceded in death by her two children, Cheryl Ann Boyd McMahon and Allen Todd Boyd, Jr., both of whom she loved and missed deeply.
Per Vicky’s wishes, there will be no services and her ashes will be spread with her children and along places she called home.
