On Saturday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to 102 Sami Street, in the Mar-Mac community, in reference to a shooting. Deputies found a 3-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

The juvenile was transported to UNC Health Wayne and later transferred to ECU Medical Center in Greenville. Wayne County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the scene and at this time it appears the shooting was accidental. This remains an active investigation and as more information becomes available the Sheriff’s Office will send out an updated release.
