White Vying for District 6 City Council Seat

Roderick C. White is vying for the District 6 seat on the Goldsboro City Council.

White attended Goldsboro City Schools and is a proud graduate of Goldsboro High School. He is also a retired Army Command Sergeant Major with 31 years of active duty service.

“My experiences are in the professional, volunteer, and educational arenas,” said White. “I am honored to serve and have served in many roles including leadership at the executive level. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management from Columbia Southern University while serving in the military. I am also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Military Affairs Commission, the Community Relations and Development Commission, and a state partner with the National Advisory Council on North Carolina Child Care Financing. My commitment to service continues as I am currently employed with the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Among other duties, it is my responsibility to monitor and work to improve the quality-of-life issues for over 600,000 service men and women and their families who call North Carolina home.”

With the help of citizens, White plans to improve the safety of Goldsboro by implementing creative solutions including recruiting tools. One way is the Skills Bridge Program which allows transitioning service members who possess the qualifying ability and skill set to intern with companies. White feels these steps will help to ease the stress of transition for veterans back into the workforce. White also vows to take care of our military men, women, their families, and strengthening the relationship with Seymour Johnson will be paramount to growing our community’s success.

“This effort will also enhance the entire community including the civilian residents that live beside and with our military households,” White said. “We are all connected and need each other. An environment of respect and inclusiveness will make our neighborhoods, schools, and entire city a place where people will want to live, work, and raise a family. I will work tirelessly at Growing our economy by aggressively seeking and recruiting industries like IT and manufacturing opportunities that pay a livable wage.”

Another strategy White has for continuous improvement for our quality of life here in Goldsboro includes working to find developers to cater to our unique needs. White also plans to address Goldsboro’s need for affordable/workforce housing.

“To further help us as a community, I will bring the issue of updating the city’s infrastructure into the discussion,” White said. “Updating infrastructure to help our practical and everyday lives includes but not limited to water pressure in certain neighborhoods and road improvement in the entire city. We must work hard to improve the quality of life for all of our citizens, not just a chosen few. I bring a fresh set of eyes, new ideas, and a heart of service to represent District 6. I will place performance over politics and together we can move Goldsboro forward.”
