Martha Cox Phipps passed away peacefully on August 1, 2023, at Wilson Pines Nursing and Rehab. Martha was born and raised in Goldsboro and was the daughter of Walter Bryant and Phoebe Grantham Cox. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Cobb Phipps.

Martha worked in retail sales most of her life including Belk, Mason’s, and JC Penney. Martha was a people person and loved working in retail sales where she made many friends and established many relationships for many years to come. Martha usually could not go anywhere without running into former friends or customers. It seemed she knew everyone in Wayne and surrounding counties.

Martha was a charter member of Adamsville Baptist Church and maintained her membership there for 63 years.

Martha had many friends that helped care for her in big and small ways, and she will be greatly missed by them. The family would like to especially thank Cindy Potter, Barbara Turner, and the Peggy Seegars Senior Center workers for the love and care extended to Martha while she was still living in Goldsboro.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery in Seven Springs, NC with the Rev. Michael Wright officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Lynn Phipps Price, and husband Dennis of Cary; grandchildren, Douglas (Susan) of Raleigh and Andrew (Tamany) of Fuquay Varina; and great-grandchildren, Eilliana, Serena, Charlotte, and Addelynn. Martha is also survived by her brother, Bobby Cox, and wife, Pat of Dudley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was also preceded in death by her son Douglas Phipps and sisters, Kathrine McClenny, Edna Jones Price, Hilda Kornegay, and Ruth Overman.
