Delores “Midge” Hayes, 73 of Goldsboro, peacefully passed on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in West Virginia, she was the proud daughter of the late Melvia Lilly McCoy and Buford Hampton McCoy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Juanita Kelley, and her brothers; Gary McCoy and Dwain McCoy. Midge is survived by her cherished husband of 38 years, Michael Spence Hayes, her sons Robert Hampton (Amanda) of Henrico, Alan Hampton (Beth) of Raleigh, daughter Rhonda Roberts (Jeff) of Swansboro, step-son Michael Hayes II of Goldsboro, step-daughter Regina Aragon of Greensboro. Furthermore, her treasured grandchildren Robert, Joseph and Samantha Hampton, Blake and Bailey Hampton, Darian and Riley Roberts, Spence and Mason Hayes, Brandon Korn, Alex Grady, and Chase Wagner, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Midge retired from the US Air Force Reserve as a budget analyst in 2012, after 32 years of devoted and faithful service. She loved being surrounded by her family and her beloved dog Cricket. Some of her favorite hobbies included shopping, reading, fishing, and crafting. She often enjoyed road trips with her cousin Barbara. Never idle, Midge also fervently enjoyed assisting others, lending a hand to those in need. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Evergreen Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a service will be held at 11:00 in the chapel.
