Susan Smith Hill, 62, departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Thursday, July 20, 2023. She was no doubt welcomed with open arms by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as her loving husband, Jackie Ray Hill. Born in Lenoir County on November 12, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Barbara Smith.

For many years, Susan worked at Faith Christian Academy. She spent many years as the yearbook director. Oftentimes, Susan could be seen with a camera in hand snapping countless moments throughout the school year to later be remembered in the yearbook. Every Monday, Susan could be found enjoying lunch at Rudy’s (James’ Delicious Hot Dogs.) Susan’s happy place was at the beach. She loved hearing the crashing of the waves while walking on the beach searching for shells.

Susan was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Goldsboro. She was a faithful pastor’s wife to her late husband. She would make anyone who attended church feel welcome. Her love for God and her church was evident in the way she lived her life.

For Susan, there was no greater blessing than that of her family. The love she had for her children knew no bounds. Each moment spent together was a cherished memory that she held on to. Susan will be remembered as a loving wife and mother.

A service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 7 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, located at 611 W Grantham Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530 (located next to the DMV) with Pastor Virgil Whaley presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Internment will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the John Green Smith Cemetery, located at 715 John Green Smith Road in Kinston, NC.

Susan is survived by her children, Amie Hill, Alyssa Maldonado and husband, Jose, and Aaron Hill; and step-brothers Wesley Smith and Melvin Smith.

In addition to her parents and husband, Susan is preceded in death by her brother, Allen Smith.
