A member of the Goldsboro Police Department passed away on Monday.

The Goldsboro Police Department shared the following message from Chief Michael West on its Facebook page on Monday, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our colleague and friend, Corporal Matthew Habermas. Matt was an exceptional individual whose contributions extended far beyond the workplace. His warmth, compassion, and dedication touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Matt’s family, who have lost a beloved member. We extend our deepest condolences to them and offer our support in any way possible.”

A cause of death for Habermas has not been released, but it is known that he did not die in the line of duty.
