John Goodsell Latt, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center. Born in Hendersonville on October 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Emil F. and Gail Goodsell Latt.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, David Latt and Oscar Raymond Latt; and nephew, Oscar Raymond “Skip” Latt, Jr.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Justus “Becky” Latt; daughter, Gina Latt Adams and her husband, William Robert “Bobby” Adams whom John loved as a son; beloved granddaughter, Rebecca Nicole Adams; and many special nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Susan Latt Lamb.

John attended Clemson University, later transferring to Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in Engineering in 1952. Following graduation from Auburn, he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for four years. During his time in the Army, he served one tour of duty in Korea.

Upon his relocation to Goldsboro, John worked with T.A. Loving Construction Company from 1974 until his retirement in the late 90’s.

John’s engineering mind afforded him the skills to become an avid woodworker. He was proud of the time and effort he spent restoring his 1952 Chris-Craft boat.

John was a lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, in the chapel of Shuler Funeral Home in Hendersonville with Pastor Steve Mirich, Jr., and a Special Niece, Amy Starnes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU doctors, nurses, and staff at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for the exemplary care provided to John in his final days.
