Traffic Stop Leads to Arrests

On June 29, at approximately 2 a.m., deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office conducted a vehicle traffic stop for a chapter 90 violation. During the traffic stop the front passenger, Phillip Chima Burrell, vacated the U-Haul moving truck and fled the scene on foot.

The driver, Rashadd Montell Hill, was detained due to the potent odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle and the unknown passenger fleeing the scene. During the encounter, drug paraphernalia was identified in plain view within the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter the passenger who had fled was discovered, identified, and detained. A search of the vehicle was conducted, clothing and tools reasonably identified to be used in burglaries were discovered in the passenger and cargo area of the U-Haul vehicle.

Hill and Burrell were arrested on the scene and charged with Possession of Burglary Tools and Resist Delay or Obstruct and processed through the Wayne County Magistrate.

Both Hill and Burrell received a secured bond of $6,000 each and were then turned over to the Wayne County Detention Center for booking.
