Almost a year after the passing of Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Fishman, his family has received quite an unexpected gift.

The organization Tunnel to Towers paid off the Fishman family’s mortgage. Sgt. Fishman was survived by his wfie Sarah, and two children.

A 12-year veteran of the Wayne County Sheriff’s office, Fishman was one of three deputies shot on August 1, 2022. Fishman was one of three deputies attempting to serve involuntary commitment papers prior to the shooting. A day later, Fishman passed away from the injuries he sustained, while the two other deputies survived.

Along with his role with the Sheriff’s Department, Fishman was as an auxiliary officer with the Mount Olive Police Department. He also served on the Dive Team and as a K-9 Handler.
