Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration Held Downtown

Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Goldsboro on Saturday afternoon for the third annual Juneteenth celebration.

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America.

Over 30 vendors were on hand offering clothing and fashion along with a kids zone with bouncy houses, and five food trucks kept everyone well fed.

On stage at The Hub national recording artist Ricco Barrino, the GHS ShowStoppers, AAG Roc. Tim Pounds, Victoria Ruffin-Atkins, J. Renew, Tim Dortch, Crossdatracks KB, local dance group Triple D, Divine 9, Deeper Life Ministries and DJ C-Rai kept attendees entertained.

Jamz Out Juneteenth was presented by Goldsboro radio station 92.7 JAMZ (WSSG) and sponsored by Badcock Home Furniture & More, Matthews Motors, Cricket Wireless, Wayne Community College, the City of Goldsboro and the County of Wayne
