Edith Darden Sullivan

Edith Darden Sullivan

June 8, 2023, 85, Goldsboro –

Edith Darden Sullivan peacefully departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Thursday, June 8, 2023. She was born in Wayne County to the late Larry and Maude Davis Darden on December 15, 1937. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Darden Boykin.

Edith was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Well-known and loved by all in her community, she was a dedicated member of Stoney Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church. There, she joined in worship with her brothers and sisters in Christ, in the study as a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class, and in service and fellowship through membership in the Alpha Circle.

Working as a public servant for the State of North Carolina for 28 years, Edith was an invaluable asset to the Wayne County Clerk of Court’s Office, serving as Assistant Clerk of Court.

Spending time working in her yard was an ultimate pleasure for Edith. Attending to every detail, her yard was always immaculate. Her beautiful flowers seemed to stay in full bloom. Even during years of declining health, she enjoyed cutting different varieties to make arrangements that brightened the rooms of her home.

She looked forward to each opportunity to spend time with family, and her experiences with her grandchildren were simply the best. Watching her grandson play baseball and her granddaughter dance and cheer were some of her most cherished times.

With a sweet spirit and outgoing personality, Edith never met a stranger. Wherever she went, she was sure to leave with a new friend. It was impossible not to love her kind smile and welcoming presence. She loved unconditionally and was truly loved by all in return. She will be terribly missed by her family, friends, and community.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek Church followed by a service to celebrate Edith’s life at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Josh Whitfield and Pastor Barry Williamson officiating. The interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.

Edith is survived by her husband of 61 years, Will Sullivan; daughter, Rhonda Taylor and husband, Trey; grandson, Cameron Taylor and wife, Meredith; and granddaughter, Caroline Taylor and fiancé, Blake Phillips.

Special thanks to her wonderful family, neighbors, church friends, and the nurses and doctors who cared for her and her family in so many kind and thoughtful ways through the years and during this time of loss. We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care they provided for Edith during her final days.
