May 31, 2023, 87, Fremont –

Gladys Irene Summerlin, 87, formerly of Fremont passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.  The family will receive friends Friday, June 2, 2023, from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.

Mrs. Summerlin was born in Johnston County on September 2, 1935, to the late Dock and Ellen Davis Parnell. 

She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Irene Summerlin of Fremont; two sisters, Iona Bailey of Pikeville and Gloria Hope Talton of Princeton; daughter-in-law, Judy Summerlin; two grandchildren, Christopher Allen Summerlin and wife, Devon and Jessica Rae Summerlin and fiancé, Eric Brown; two great-grandchildren, Walker Haynes and Carter Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elvis Summerlin, and her son, Wayne Summerlin. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Soup Kitchen or the Homeless Shelter of Wayne County.

Services are entrusted to the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
