Mrs. Justeen Kilpatrick Smith, 88, of the Indian Springs community passed away on Tuesday, May 16 while being cared for at Brookdale Assisted Living in Goldsboro. She is survived by her daughters; LaDonna Martin of Greensboro, and Darlene Carter and husband Dave of LaGrange; a son, Jimmy Smith and his wife Lynn of Dudley; a sister, Lerlene Deans of Rocky Mount; a brother, Aldon Summerlin and his wife JoAnn of LaGrange; two sisters in laws, Edna House and Jean Byrd, both of Mount Olive; her grandchildren, Ava and Emersyn Carter, and Laura Bryan and husband Will, and Beth Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Justeen was preceded in death by her parents; Edward Guy and Lucy Barwick Kilpatrick; her stepmother, Eula Mae Kilpatrick her husband of 67 years, Donald Smith; a sister, Christine K. Byrd. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 6 o’clock in the evening at Tyndall Funeral Home. Rev. Michael L. “Mickey” Whitfield and the Rev. Paul Rose will officiate the service followed by a time of visitation. Burial will take place in the Maplewood Cemetery Friday morning, at 10 o’clock.

Justeen was raised in the Seven Springs community and after marrying her husband Donald Smith, they settled in Indian Springs. They both were life-long members of Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for any occasion. She was also a member of the Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she enjoyed serving alongside her husband, and the other ladies of the community and its members. Justeen enjoyed working in her yard which she kept immaculate. Her lilies and iris were always the most beautiful one could find. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank her caregivers; Erin, Melissa, Carol, Kim, Tiffany, and Teresa for their mother’s exceptional care while at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility. Also the staff at Gentiva Hospice, and her sitters, Jimmie Davis and Mary Dell Lewis.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be directed to the Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund at UMO, or to the Ladies Auxiliary of Northeast OFWB Church, Mount Olive.
