Conference Carolinas Places 13 on 2023 USILA Division II All-Region South Teams Including a Pair from Mount Olive

The United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced the 2023 USILA Division II All-Region South Teams on Monday and 13 Conference Carolinas student-athletes made the list. 

Belmont Abbey, the 2023 Conference Carolinas regular season champions, led four different league programs with six honorees while North Greenville had four student-athletes recognized. Mount Olive had a pair of honorees while 2023 Conference Carolinas tournament champion Barton had one recognized.

Mike Marto of Mount Olive was named to the first team as a face-off specialist. The graduate student from Saddle Brook, New Jersey led Conference Carolinas and finished second in NCAA Division II with a .691 face-off winning percentage as he won 239 face-offs this season in 15 games. He took nearly 92 percent (346-of-378) of the team’s total face-off attempts and scored three times for the Trojans.

Thomas Cecere, Cameron Webb and Anthony Pecoraro of North Greenville and Jacob Power of Belmont Abbey each earned third team honors. 

Cecere, a redshirt senior attack from Grand Island, New York, led NGU with 58 points on the season with 40 goals and 18 assists for the Crusaders. 

A junior defensive midfielder from Charlotte, North Carolina, Webb averaged nearly one turnover per game with 16, collected 46 ground balls, scored 11 times and had seven assists in 2023. 

A graduate long stick midfielder from Boynton Beach, Floria, Pecoraro scored 10 goals and had an assist, was 6-of-12 on face-offs, caused 30 turnovers and tallied 46 ground balls on the season. 

Power, a junior defensive midfielder from Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, tallied 23 points on 11 goals and 12 assists with 53 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers for The Abbey this season.

Mark Crawford (attack) of Barton, Chapman Parker (midfield) of Mount Olive, Colin Courtney (defense) of North Greenville and Davis McCulley (attack), Tre Childers (midfield), James Bucher (defense), Caleb Mulcahy (face-off) and Thomas Sullivan (goalie) of Belmont Abbey were all honorable mention selections.
