Nellie Whitener McGinnis

May 16, 2023, 85, Goldsboro –

Nellie Whitener McGinnis, 85, entered into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Nellie was born in Gaston County to the late Doil and Pearl Jordan Whitener on March 8, 1938. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Clara Lee Atkins, Yvonne Broyles, and Frances Edith Belcher; and brothers, Harold Whitener and Kenneth Whitener.

A member of Rosewood First Baptist Church, Nellie worshipped her Lord faithfully alongside her family for many years. With the desire to preserve our agricultural heritage, she and her husband were founding members of the Eastern Carolina Vintage Farm Equipment Club.

Known for her exceptional culinary skills, friends and family alike looked forward to every meal she prepared. The smell of apple jacks brought everyone into her presence, as it was one of her most sought delicacies.

Spending time caring for home and family was her life’s passion. With great pride, she met every need of her family, always looking for ways to offer her best to each one.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Nellie’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Vernon Braswell and Pastor Tim Lipp officiating. Interment will be on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Nellie is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Jerry N. McGinnis; daughter, Rhonda Price (Dave) of Goldsboro; son, James Robert “Robbie” McGinnis (Beverly) of New Kent, VA; grandchildren, Scott Price, Sarah Price Crisco (Cody), Daniel McGinnis and Jerry McGinnis; and a great-grandchild, Ellasyn Crisco.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Nellie’s memory to Rosewood First Baptist Church, 562 NC 581 South, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
